Beauty Inside & Out: Ashley Tisdale [Marie Claire]

Written by Erika on November 20 2022

Sharpay Evans by day, “grandma” by night. At least that’s how the story went according to Ashley Tisdale. “My friends would call me a grandma when I was in my twenties, because I was someone who worked a lot and obviously had a lot going on in that time of my life. So I, to be honest, would never really go out go out. I would just hang out and watch tv—that was my type of self-care back then,” the actress tells Marie Claire. While “grandmas are cool” and binging 24 is a stellar use of time in our book, it’s natural for self-care routines to evolve. Fast forward through more acting roles, the birth of her daughter, and the start of her wellness website, and Tisdale’s me-time rituals now look a little different.

Mornings start at 6 a.m. with meditation and nighttimes end with spa-grade baths, both of which are made easier by Tisdale’s new Target-exclusive line, Being Frenshe. “My job is to take baths and take showers and indulge in self-care,” the High School Musical alum jokes. Of course, there’s also the marketing and less-glamorous day-to-day activities that come with running a business. But it’s all about balance, right? Here, Tisdale breaks down the habits, beauty products, and foods that keep her level-headed.

Inner Beauty

Early Morning Meditations

Because I struggle with anxiety, I know I always need to be on top of my self-care, not just for myself, but for my daughter. I don’t ever want to be anxious around her or put my anxiety on her. I really make an effort to wake up early in the morning and meditate before I even grab her when she wakes up. When I’m feeling a little funky, I just acknowledge that I’m feeling that way and that that’s okay. I have tools to help myself and sometimes that means doing an extra meditation that day. I have a lot that I do and a lot going on, so it can be stressful. When I’m in a state of [being] overwhelm[ed], I can quickly say, Okay, maybe instead of doing just one meditation today, I’ll do two. Paying attention to those feelings and not being scared of them is what has helped me the most. continue reading

Ashley Tisdale Almost Had a Huge Role in The Vampire Diaries

Written by Erika on June 17 2022

High School Musical actress Ashley Tisdale could have starred as a completely different character in The Vampire Diaries, but had to turn it down.

The human-meets-vampire trope arose in popularity due to the tremendous hype/mass hysteria after the film release of Twilight in 2008. A year after Twilight’s first film adaptation, another vampire book series received an adaptation, but for The CW instead. L.J. Smith’s The Vampire Diaries novels were initially published in the 1990s, but its television adaptation released in 2009.

Similar to Twilight, The Vampire Diares — also known as TVD — starred a high school student protagonist who just couldn’t decide between two men. Thus Team Damon and Team Stefan were created, like Team Edward and Team Jacob (but with two vampires who were brothers instead). Like how Jennifer Lawrence almost played Bella Swan in Twilight, TVD almost looked a lot different, because Ashley Tisdale almost played Elena Gilbert.

Elena Gilbert was the main protagonist of The Vampire Diaries, who became immediately entranced by the Salvatore brothers — Damon and Stefan (the latter played by future Star Trek star Paul Wesley). After discovering the charming sibling duo were brothers, Elena found out she was also a Petrova doppelgänger with a downright cruel vampire named Katherine Pierce. Elena accidentally turned into a vampire at the end of Season 3 when she drowned with Damon’s blood in her system. Elena eventually married Damon, and they lived happily ever after in Mystic Falls. Damon and Elena’s daughter Stefanie appears in The Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies, which also includes werewolves.

Degrassi: The Next Generation’s Nina Dobrev was hired to play Elena, along with her doppelgängers. Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries at the end of Season 6, but briefly returned for the emotionally heavy series’ finale. Dobrev’s ability to play multiple characters on the show with vastly different personalities was definitely worthy of applause. Her Bulgarian roots also helped with her portrayal of Katherine, who hailed from Bulgaria in the TV series. Despite her spectacular performance, Dobrev wasn’t the first choice for the role. Disney’s High School Musical’s Ashley Tisdale was originally approached to star as Elena, and the series wouldn’t have been the same.

Tisdale was coming off the hype of High School Musical 3: Senior Year when she was offered the role of Elena. However, she turned the part down due to prior commitments to another The CW series. Tisdale starred as Savannah Monroe alongside Aly Michalka in the cheerleading drama Hellcats. Unfortunately, the series didn’t “Bop to the Top” when it was canceled after merely one season. The Vampire Diaries wasn’t the only popular teen series Tisdale could have starred in. She also turned down the chance to star in Pretty Little Liars for Hellcats.

Both The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars would have been great opportunities for Tisdale to further her career. Although, it arguably worked out well that she turned down TVD because of how well Dobrev portrayed Elena. In an attempt to play more mature characters, Tisdale appeared as Jody Sanders in Scary Movie V, but it was ultimately a disastrous film. She has since moved on as a panelist on The Masked Dancer — the dance counterpart to the long-running series The Masked Singer — and focused more on her music career.

Tour the Los Angeles Family Home That Ashley Tisdale Designed for Herself

Written by Erika on March 30 2022

Ashley gave architecturaldigest.com an exclusive peek inside the modern property she shares with her family. They moved into the house when she was seven months pregnant.

When Ashley Tisdale first revealed her baby’s nursery on Instagram, the room was decidedly minimalist with its white walls, white rug, and streamlined wood crib from Kalon Studios. The singular piece of art by Stella Maria Baer perfectly echoed her daughter’s celestial name, Jupiter. But now that Jupiter has been exploring Earth for an entire year, her surroundings look very different, thanks to dark green paint and a patterned pink rug. “I started to get to know her, and I was like, okay, this is a little bit too vanilla-y for her. We need to pump up the funkiness because she just has a cool, fun personality,” Tisdale says. “I think she has a design eye to be honest.” Without diving too far into the science of talking to your baby in utero, this makes total sense. After all, Tisdale and her composer husband Christopher French moved into their current home when she was around seven months pregnant, at which point the High School Musical alum dove headfirst into decorating. The talented Tisdale was well prepared for the undertaking, considering she launched her design passion project, Frenshe Interiors, last year.

An aesthete who has worked with AD100 talents like Jake Arnold and Pierce & Ward on past homes, and who also enrolled herself in Kelly Wearstler’s Masterclass, Tisdale had never furnished an entire house by herself. Nonetheless, she felt up to the challenge after successfully tackling an extensive kitchen remodel with her contractor father for her previous home in Los Feliz in Los Angeles. continue reading

Ashley Tisdale Says Moms Need to Stop Feeling Guilty Over Baby Feeding

Written by Erika on October 08 2021

“Don’t feel guilty. The biggest thing for me was just having a great experience feeding. That’s the most important, no matter how it is.”

Actress Ashley Tisdale and her husband, musician Christopher French, welcomed their daughter Jupiter Iris French a little over six months ago in March 2021. Since then, the new parents have been enjoying their bundle of joy, watching Jupiter grow and celebrating her milestones—but it hasn’t all been easy. In recent weeks, Tisdale has opened up about how challenging the postpartum and breastfeeding periods were for her—and believes new moms need to stop feeling guilty about their journeys.

(I have added 6 new photos for Enfamil to the gallery.)

“I had difficulty breastfeeding, so that didn’t really work out,” Tisdale tells The Bump, whose app she used throughout her pregnancy. She adds that she felt grateful there were plenty of other options out there, including her preferred formula of choice, Enfamil Enspire, which she has now partnered with. “She’s on Enfamil’s Enspire, and it’s the closest formula to breastmilk. She gets all of her nutrients and everything she needs for development,” she explains. “There’s definitely those moments we’re like, ‘What am I going to do?’ But then you’re like, ‘Okay, I’ve got this.’ … I feel like we’ve kind of already found a little bit of our footing, but I’m sure things will change again.”

Ashley Tisdale Is Ready To Bring Back That 2000s Pop Vibe As A Cool Mom

Written by Erika on August 03 2021

Ashley Tisdale’s life has changed a lot since you last checked in on her. For one, she’s a new mom. Tisdale and husband Christopher French welcomed their first child, daughter Jupiter Iris French, in March. Now, Jupiter is running her world — fitting for a child who shares her name with the biggest planet in the universe — all while she’s contemplating another music comeback and working on Fox’s The Masked Dancer. “Before, obviously, I could just do my own thing,” the High School Musical alum tells Bustle. “But now, my schedule really revolves around her.”

If it feels weird as a fan seeing Sharpay Evans as a mom, imagine how it feels for Tisdale’s friends, who rarely saw her pregnant due to to the star locking herself in during the COVID-19 pandemic. “To kind of go from that to like, ‘I have a baby!’ It’s so crazy for people,” she says, laughing. This made their reunions even sweeter, particularly when it came to her HSM co-star and longtime BFF Vanessa Hudgens, whom Jupiter embraced when they met for the first time.
